A Taste of Heaven

Piece submitted by MERCY MUSA

Pain sits perfectly at the tip of my tongue

I can speak of pain through my teeth

As though I own the wordings

My taste buds know no other taste when pain sits

Like a king at the bridge of my tongue

I have felt enough pain to master its taste

It’s bitter-sour, it tastes like sand and despair

It tastes like the ground underneath my feet,

And I have grown weary of the same old taste

I thirst for something different, something new

Something sweet as honey and hope

Something as sweet as relief

And a taste of heaven will do

A taste of heaven is all I need.
