Submission Guidelines

If you are reading this, then congratulations are in order. You have made the right decision to join a unique group of writers.

Green Black Tales is more than a blog; we are a community of African writers, who share the same vision, and have taken the bold step to tell our stories our way. We invite you to start with an open mind and write what you want, how you want to.

To be a part of this writing community, there are few things you need to know;

  • If you would like your work to be featured on GBT, send your submission as an attachment to the email – editor@greenblacktales.com.

  • We are open to submissions of all genres of literature (excluding erotica) from writers from all over the world.

  • The focus of our art is on Africa. Submissions must be well-written works that focus on African themes, i.e. involve characters or settings relevant to Africa (not limited to stories set in villages and forests). This is consistent with our desire to promote contemporary African literature that does not tell a single story.

  • We do not accept works that have previously been published on other blogs, websites, or magazines. All submissions must be the original creations of the entrants. By submitting a work, each entrant represents and warrants that (a) his/her submitted work is his/her original creation and (b) his/her submitted work is the sole and exclusive property of the entrant.

  • Submission must be made wholly or predominantly in English. Where part of the submission is in another language, enough context should be given for the reader to understand the meaning; otherwise, there should be a translation. This is to ensure that as many of our readers from around the world can enjoy your work.

  • We comply strictly with our word counts because we publish for an online audience, and we prefer short, sharp, and exciting works.

o   Fiction, Non-fiction and short stories: Maximum of 2500 words.

o   Poetry: Maximum of 1000 words.

  • All submissions are reviewed by our editors for punctuation, structure, and grammar. You will hear back from us within five days of receiving your submission, depending on the number of submissions queued for review.

  • Contributions are by-lined by the name you choose to be publicly known by on the site.

  • Submissions may be made with a featured image. We recommend Unsplash for original, royalty free images.

  • We do not have a strict upload rate, but we believe in consistency and encourage our contributors to submit posts as often as possible.

That’s it. If you require further information, please use the form below, say hello on social media, or send an email to editor@greenblacktales.com and someone will reach out to you.

Cheers!
